Friend
How pathetic and meaningless we have made this word. I hadn't noticed it to the extreme I have lately, but I have seen examples of just how meaningless a word it is to people. It gets tossed out mostly as a means to get rid of people rather than draw them close; Basically the total opposite of it's true meaning. It's not a real word by those whose words lack substance to start with, it's an escape word. It makes me nauseous.
In scripture, friend is a powerful word. It is a word to describe those who will not leave your side. It describes those who pick you up and when friends are entwined, nothing can break them. How sad the writers of such things must be now to see how little regard we have for this word.
Fortunately, in the circle that remains around me now after God has weeded out the folks who have no idea even what the true meaning of the word is, in this circle, they do know. They are those that have actually read what the word means and are those that are more faithful than a brother. Those that reach out for me and reach back when I reach for them. It's a very small crowd, but huge in substance. These people hurt, but are not perpetual victims. They are people who are warriors and when they use the F word, it has value and honor. They know they can trust me and I know I can trust them.
I take no small amount of pride in this and in knowing that in a very small circle in this world, this word is still very powerful and stands the test of what writers of scripture intended it to be.
